Belfast-based Delta Packaging’s former chairman Terry Cross has visited Ulster University where he invested £190,000 towards cancer research.
The David Cross Research Fund, created in 2015 in memory of Mr Cross’ son who died of skin cancer at the age of 33, supports a programme led by Professor Tara Moore and the Biomedical Sciences Research Institute.
Ms Moore, UU professor of personalised medicine, said the money has helped to “form a global network of collaborators with expertise for establishing new and innovative approaches for the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer”.
Mr Cross, who sold his company to its Finnish rival Huhtamaki in an £80m deal in 2016, said: “It has been a very worthwhile and rewarding experience and I am very happy with the impact made from my investment.”
